Moanin’ and Cyan…
Posted by: ryno in Linux, Photography, art, cognitive dissonance, peppers, perceptionSince giving up on the old BillyGates Gruff, I’ve been experiencing a number of pleasant sensations:
- No slow bootups;
- Less virus paranoia;
- Updates, upgrades and new applications ready-to-run in minutes without pain in the wallet and the virtual sodomy that is EULA;
- The joy of Open Source Software (offered free, but I urge you to donate: keep the good fight going!);
- The good side of some changes in how things are done.
Now it’s this last one that inspired the current post. I loved IrfanView when I ran Windows, and if you’re still under the Curse Of Redmond, I recommend the program to you (again, donate!).
There is no current Linux port of IrfanView. (Sure, I could use WINE and run it anyway, but I’m still happily settling into an environment wirthout all the old stuff.) My Linux distribution comes free with pretty-well anything I need for most of the everyday tasks anyway, including a graphic package called GIMP, which is providing me with a bit of amusement as I find my way around.
Here’s a wallpaper I made from one of my “arty peppers” pictures from last year, with a bit of an added twist.
Now, if only I can breed the blighters to look like that, I can retire in style.
G’night, both My Readers™.
