The delightful XKCD comic has pretty-well parallelled the home situation. Both Herself and I are stricken with the Dread Lurgi (as found only in Doctors’ Waiting Rooms - where else would you go to find a good, solid contagious disease?), and while her case is pretty bad, I’ve had to drop whatever I’m doing for the occasional lie-down.

Provided she’s recovered from the lurgi, the Good Woman will be letting a surgeon go “Hmm” at her innards (in that way that doctors and mechanics seem to have) in under four weeks.

There will be a fairly lengthy period in which she will be confined (mostly) to bed. Rather than subject the poor lass to Internet Withdrawal, I’m going to actively participate in breaking what has been one of the great rules of our time together.

I’m taking some Cat 5 up from the studio to the house. With a bit of creative thinking and use of a 10/100 switch, I can get the desired result without breaching any of the GovCo regulations that cover cabling.

No, I wasn’t considering wireless. I’ve been in the position to observe one rather good wardriver, and for now I believe the best answer to that threat is simply to stay wired.

Once Herself is up and about again, I’ll divert the data cable to her sewing room, so she can do those arcane things with her laptop and Very Complicated Sewing Software more easily.

Coming Soon: Adventures with ladders, fossilised cat-poo, and lots of poking things.

G’nite, Both My Readers™. I’m off to fall over again.

I hope that you both start feeling better and that Herself’s procedure goes well.
