Project Farinelli – Day Eighteen
Posted by: ryno in Domestic, Food, Photography, chilli plants, gardening, peppers, tags: aphids, chilli plants, cloning, cuttings, Domestic, Food, gardening, horticulture, hybrid, peppers, Photography, seedlessThe pepper cloning business has its ups and downs…
The couple of cuttings I started a few days later, to grow in the shade (other specimens are on a sunny window ledge) all fell over the other night. I’d brought them inside, anticipating this winter’s first frost (didn’t happen), and misjudged the width of the place I put them down.
Much mess and swearing later, they’re picked up and repotted. I have yet to see how they respond to this bout of rough treatment. There appears to be a little growth, but the photos didn’t turn out well. Mister Wobblyhands here was not getting good macro focus just then, it seems.
It’s Day 18 of the project now: you can compare Day 7 shots via this link.
There’s promising signs that at least something is happening…
… and that solitary seed (just the one from a couple of dozen fruit) appears to be viable.
Some cuttings had flower buds, which have opened!
Even where things look dead, some shoots are emerging.
Some signs of life, however…
… are downright unwelcome! Aphids suck, both literally and in a pejorative sense.
A mist with soapy water and garlic juice is in order. I’ll try for some in-focus shots of the shaded plants tomorrow.
