Bollinger Bird laughs

This one’s strictly for the birds.

Inspired by the usual diverse elements (in this case Japanese koto music and short samples of some filed recordings I’d made of birds), Uncaged is fairly good low-volume atmosphere stuff.

The download is 12.37MB: here’s Sharebee (and Megaupload too) linkery.

Instead of TFF™, here’s what little I can recall of the creative process:

  • Uncaged was built around the bird-sounds and keyboard framework, then guitars were added.
  • The guitar used was a nylon-strung classical type with a piezo pickup in the bridge.
  • On one guitar track, an Ibanez phaser pedal tweaked the sound into that koto kind of pitch-oddness.

  • The other guitar track was a mixture of “vanilla” and the un-guitar-like sound of the Boss OC-2 Octave pedal.
  • boss_oc-2_001.jpg
  • The bird noises are mainly a mixed “dawn chorus” from a rainy Autumn daybreak in a small Snowy Mountains (NSW) town: there is a bit of currawong in there, too.
