Nope… it’s a water tank for a Beyer Garrat loco:

The Ipswich Railway Workshops Museum was possibly the most interesting visit, to anything, that I’ve ever had. Obviously it’s too late in the night to wax poetic about it, but… WOW.
I’m not a particular fan of railway matters, unlike Herself’s Dad, who is pretty heavily involved in vintage cars, rideable mini-railways and the like, but I have picked up a thing or two about machinery, and to have an expert/enthusiast like him along for the visit made it all the more fun.
Well, okay, perhaps I am a bit of a rail geek… I spotted this particular locomotive as we passed by, and something pinged in the ol’ memory.
“Is that one of the diesel-mechanical locos?”, said your humble blogonaut to the guide. (I came across this particular type, as opposed to diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic, in some totally unrelated discussion on a forum which is nothing to do with trains at all, but for some silly reason I remembered that Queensland Railways had used a few, and that damn few of these were left.)
Result! There’s nothing like knowing the Sekrit Things: it’s a passport to privilege. Father-in-law and self were set loose from the supervised gaggle, and allowed to do some closer examination of Interesting Things.
There’s more photos and a story (hopefully with interest to non-trainspotters as well) to come, but for now it’s bedtime for me.
