(Carries on where this left off.)

As an extra, I’ll get my sorry carcass over to the Council’s history unit at some stage, and try to provide some text about the prior history of some of these older shops. I can’t promise to approach the proprietors for permission to get some inside details, but we’ll see how we go…

Today’s shots are the opposite side of the street from the previous part. Here’s a map:

Russell St context map.

The buildings front on Russell St and Keefe St is the rear alley. (Pictures in this blog utilise Clicky-For-Biggy™ technology, and there’s some information in the picture tags.)

And now for a look behind from Keefe St…

Behind the Rowes store cluster. Peak of the Joey Dents facade visible just R of the wooden pole. So many sealed-up entrances and outbuildings……and features like this slide for freight. The brickwork shows how usage and openings have changed. Electrical and sprinkler retrofits are evident.

Some period details remain…

Old-style drainpipe joint and window bars. This ornate metal drainpipe fitting is amazing.

I can imagine kicking back on the back verandah of whatever-this-used-to-be. (It’s the rear of this building:)

This building has the coolest veranadah at rear.View over the yard and stables?

More pics (and hopefully some text) soon.
